Radon Mitigation System Cost: Calculator, ZIP Data & Local Pros
A radon mitigation system costs $1,200 to $2,000 installed for most homes, with a national average of $1,600, according to HomeGuide's February 2026 survey. EPA says to fix your home if a test reads 4 pCi/L or higher and to consider fixing between 2 and 4 pCi/L (EPA Citizen's Guide to Radon, 2016).
- $1,200–$2,000typical installed system (HomeGuide)
- 4 pCi/LEPA action level
- 1 in 15US homes estimated elevated (EPA)
Worked example
Worked example: an 1,800 sq ft home on a basement slab, a sub-slab system with one suction point, the pipe up an exterior wall, a permit required and a professional retest. The low ends add to the low total and the high ends to the high total. EPA's 2010 guide gave $800 to $2,500 for sub-slab suction, in 2010 dollars, so the result sits where both sources overlap.
| Line | Range | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sub-slab depressurization | $1,200 – $2,000 | HomeGuide, Feb 2026 |
| Under 2,500 sq ft ×1.0, one foundation ×1.0, exterior route ×1.0, no extra points | $1,200 – $2,000 | est. multipliers, all 1 |
| Permit | $25 – $150 | HomeGuide |
| Professional post-mitigation test | $125 – $400 | HomeGuide |
| Estimated total | $1,350 – $2,550 | sum, rounded to $10 |
| Running cost (not in the total) | $50 – $200 a year | EPA, 2010 dollars |

Check radon by ZIP code
Enter a ZIP to see its county's EPA radon zone (1993 map) and, where a state publishes test data, local results. Pennsylvania covers 1,452 ZIPs with 30 or more basement tests (PA DEP data), and Ohio has county results for all 88 counties (Ohio Department of Health data).
